Accessibility Statement

This site should be usable by everyone. Here is where we stand.

What we aim for

We are working to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard usually referenced in connection with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What has been done

  • Every page has a single main heading and a main landmark, so a screen reader can announce the structure and jump straight to the content.
  • A skip link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page, so the header and navigation can be bypassed.
  • Every interactive element shows a visible focus ring when reached by keyboard.
  • The shopping bag opens as a labelled dialog, moves focus into itself, and closes on the Escape key.
  • Metal swatches and gallery thumbnails are real buttons with accessible names and pressed states, not clickable images.
  • Decorative images carry an empty alt attribute and are hidden from assistive technology, so they are not announced twice.
  • Text colours were chosen to meet AA contrast on the ivory background, including the champagne accent, which is darkened for text use.
  • The site honours prefers-reduced-motion: if your system asks for less motion, the fade and scroll animations are switched off.
  • Layout is responsive down to small phones with no horizontal scrolling, and the page remains usable when text is enlarged.

Where we know we fall short

  • Some product photography carries text baked into the image, such as size charts. The same information is available in the size selector and the specifications table.
  • Checkout takes place on Stripe's pages, whose accessibility is Stripe's to maintain, not ours.
  • The contact form opens your own email program rather than submitting in place, which is unusual behaviour even though it is announced.
